Position: Assistant Director
Type of Position: Part-time Employee
Contract Dates: November 1, 2024 until May 31, 2025
Salary: $5,000

Description of Position Duties
The Columbus Gay Men’s Chorus is seeking an accomplished and creative Assistant Director to assist with starting a Youth Chorus within the CGMC umbrella. The newly-formed Youth Chorus will begin recruitment in November 2024. Following two months of recruitment, the youth chorus will start rehearsals in January with an expected performance in April. The Youth Chorus Director will also work alongside the Artistic Team for CGMC, VOX, and Illuminati on coordinating potential outreach performances and collaborative events. The work produced by the position is assigned and approved by the Artistic Director (AD).
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Rehearse and Organize weekly rehearsals
- Coordinate with CGMC AD on artistic choices for the ensemble
- Work with CGMC Artistic Staff, Marketing team, Board and Volunteers to recruit new singers for the ensemble
- Develop a retention plan for youth involvement with CGMC AD and Membership Director
- Provide monthly updates to CGMC Board of Directors, either through attending the monthly meeting or through conversation with CGMC AD
- Program, Design, and Produce concert that showcases the talent of the singers involved in the Youth Chorus
- Additional meetings with CGMC Board and CGMC staff may be needed
Description of Position Qualifications
- Position works primarily evenings and weekends
- A minimum of one year conducting experience
- An understanding of the GALA and CGMC choral culture
- A minimum of one year working with youth
- Bachelor in music preferred
- A strong, independent work ethic that is proactive in chorus goals
- Background in Voice and Choral arts

Other Information
Each candidate will be required to do an introductory conversation and in-person interview. Possible in-person audition/interview with youth.

Ensembles
Large Chorus: Produces 3 main-stage concerts and several outreach opportunities. Sings between 65 to 95 singers throughout the year. Rehearses Sunday from
6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

VOX: An 18-person auditioned ensemble. One main stage concert and multiples outreach opportunities. Rehearses Wednesday from 6:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.
Illuminati: Religious Outreach Ensemble that performs one mainstage concert and performs monthly Sunday outreach performances for spiritual congregations. Rehearses Wednesday from 7:45 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Youth Chorus: A newly-formed ensemble that is being formed and designed throughout the season.
